Twentieth Century Fox announced today that the three-disk Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 1 DVD will street on Jan. 15, 2002 with an SRP of $39.98.  The Buffy series, which debuted Tuesday on its new network (UPN), is a major licensed property for pop culture retailers with comics from Dark Horse, trading cards from Inkworks, action figures from Moore Action Collectibles, and a new collectible card game from Score.  The first season DVD set is sure to be a 'must have' item for Buffy fans.  The extended storage properties of the DVD medium make it ideal for collections that include an entire season of a television series -- and cult series like Buffy, The Simpsons, and The X-Files are sure to become an important part of the product mix for pop culture retailers who deal in DVDs.

The Buffy Season 1 DVD will contain lots of fan-pleasing extras including a full length commentary on 'Welcome to Hellmouth' by Buffy creator Joss Whedon, plus an interview with Whedon and David Boreanez, who plays Angel, as well as discussions with Whedon about six of the first season episodes including 'The Harvest,' 'Witch,' 'Never Kill a Boy on the First Date,' 'Angel,' and 'Puppet Show.'  Also included are the original pilot script, a photo gallery, biographies, and DVD-Rom weblinks.

In January Fox is also releasing a three-disk DVD set of the first season of the M*A*S*H television series as well as a two-disk set of the original M*A*S*H movie directed by Robert Altman.
