Kidscreen Magazine has reported that New York-based Sunbow Entertainment is preparing a cartoon series based on The Day I Swapped My Dad For Two Goldfish, a popular children's book written by Neil Gaiman and illustrated by Dave McKean.  Gaiman recently published American Gods (see 'American Gods Due in June'), which turned out to be a New York Times bestseller, while McKean has just been named as the art director for the second Harry Potter film.  The cartoon series based on The Day I Swapped My Dad will be called Me and My Big Ideas, and will feature the table-turning concepts of its young protagonist Kirby, who can imagine things like a 'day care center for adults.'

 

Me and My Big Ideas will feature traditional 2-D animation melded with more realistic CGI backgrounds.  Fans familiar with McKean's use of photographs in his paintings will recognize a similar technique in the backgrounds for Me and My Big Ideas, which will include photographs modified by both paint and computer graphics techniques.  Thirteen half-hour episodes are in development for this series, which should make its debut in 2003.
