Thirty years after pulling the plug for the first time the ABC Network has cancelled the Night Stalker television series once again. The first series about paranormal investigator Carl Kolchak lasted just one season (1974-75), the second one only made it through six episodes. Three episodes of the series (including the pilot) remain unaired. ABC recognized the series as having the potential to build a cult audience and made it one of the series (along with Lost & Desperate Housewives) that could be downloaded at Apple's itunes Website for $1.99 per episode. ABC has not announced whether the unaired episodes will be available for downloading or not.
ABC put the new Night Stalker series in a particularly brutal timeslot, 9 pm (CT) on Thursday (see 'Night Stalker Takes on CSI') where it faced competition from ratings juggernaut CSI on CBS and the loathsomely coiffed Donald Trump on NBC's Apprentice. While the 2005-2006 TV season has been marked by an unusually large number of new 'genre' series offerings, with the demise of Night Stalker and with Threshold hanging by a thread, the ranks of interesting new TV dramas are thinning faster than the 'Donald's' orange pate.
