Sci Fi Wire is reporting that the Doctor Who: The First Complete Series DVD set will be released in the U.S. on the same date as in Canada (see 'New Dr. Who Available in Canada'), February 14th.  Although there is no TV deal for the series in the U.S. yet, a BBC exec told Sci Fi Wire that 'It will be going on television.'  BBC expects the DVD set to appeal to the committed fans in the U.S. for now, and to reach new fans as they're attracted by eventual television exposure.  Making the official release available in the U.S. now will also undoubtedly put a damper on sales of bootleg and cross-border copies.

The show has been a monster hit in the U.K., where it has been even bigger than the biggest U.S. hits (see 'Dr. Who Beats Desparate Housewives').
