David Cronenberg's A History of Violence, based on the graphic novel written by John Wagner and published by DC Comics, is due out on DVD on February 28th.  The taut thriller has earned over $31 million at the domestic box office, and it is the kind of suspenseful, mature (in the best sense of the word) fare that could find an even bigger audience on DVD.

Warner Home Video is planning a major TV marketing campaign for the A History of Violence DVD with spots on key cable networks such as ESPN, FX, Spike, and CNN as well as on the three major broadcast networks.  The DVD marketing should provide pop culture shops another chance to promote the graphic novel, but it will be up to stores to make the connection since Cronenberg and others associated with the film have tended to downplay its graphic novel origins.

The A History of Violence DVD (MSRP $28.98) itself will include a commentary track by Cronenberg, deleted scenes, and a 'U.S. version vs. International Version' featurette, as well as a short 'Too Commercial for Cannes' documentary.
