According to the Anime News Service South Korea expects to gross over $1 billion for its cultural exports in 2005.  This total (if attained) would represent a truly impressive 66% growth over the $610 million earned in 2004.  South Korean movies, animation, and television series have all scored impressive critical and financial gains in the world market in 2005, and South Korea remains one of the world leaders in the creation of online games and video games, while South Korean comics ('manhwa') have also enjoyed widespread success in Europe, Asia, and the U.S. (see 'New Manhwa Publisher Debuts in January').

The Korean animated series Shoujo Janggeum no Yume will air on Japanese TV in 2006 and the fees that the series was able to gain are roughly triple what the Japanese have paid for Korean series in the past.  Episodic Korean drama/soap opera series such as Winter Sonata, Loving You, and Autumn Fairy Tale have also become extremely popular throughout Asia and they also contribute mightily to the boom in South Korean cultural exports.
