On June 6th Warner Home Video will release DVDs featuring two key Doctor Who story arcs dealing with the pint-sized, but deadly robots known as the Daleks. Doctor Who: Story #78: Genesis of the Daleks (MSRP $34.98) features the 4th Doctor, Tom Baker, in a six-part 2-disk saga written by Terry Nation and first aired in 1975. The good Doctor and his companions travel back in time to the planet Skaro near the end of the Thousand-Year War between the Thals and the Kaleds and meet the disfigured Kaled scientist Davros, the creator of the Daleks. Extras include commentary by Tom Baker, a 'Genesis of a Classic' featurette, and the 'Daleks Tapes,' another featurette covering the various appearances of the Daleks in the original Doctor Who programs.
Also out on D-Day is Doctor Who Story #143: Revelation of the Daleks, a two-part, single-disk adventure from 1985 featuring Colin Baker as the sixth Doctor. The Doctor and Peri journey to the hospice planet Necros where they find Davros masquerading as 'The Great Healer' and scheming to construct a new horde of Daleks using his terminally patients. Extras include commentaries, a 'Revelation Exhumed' featurette, and three deleted scenes.
With the Sci Fi Channel running the new Doctor Who series on Friday nights starting in March (see 'Sci-Fi Channel Gets Doctor Who'), there should be renewed interest in these classic episodes featuring the Doc's deadly Dalek adversaries.
