In what can only be described as a cool 'blast from the past' Wizards of the Coast is releasing Coldsnap, a Magic the Gathering expansion that turns out to be the long lost set from the Ice Age block. Coldsnap was originally intended to be the set after Alliances, which debuted a decade ago in 1996. WotC is planning to release the 155-card series on July 21st. Pre-release events will be held on July 8-9, while release tournaments are scheduled for July 22-23.
The Coldsnap release will include 60 commons, 50 uncommons, and 40 rares. There will be foil cards and the set will be Standard legal starting on August 20, 2006. Coldsnap will be released in both 61-card theme decks ($11.29) and in 15-card booster packs ($3.69). There will also be a Coldsnap Fat Pack ($29.99), which will include a Player's Guide, six booster packs, a 40-card Land set, a Coldsnap novel, and a random Pro Player card.
