The new comic book publishing company Citizen Press has announced its first publication, a 96-page, black-and-white graphic novel by Jason James entitled Johnny Repeat. The author refers to the sprawling mystery he wrote as 'cosmic noir' -- and his tale of a mysterious would-be prophet has plenty of existential overtones. Johnny Repeat wakes up in his past with a clear knowledge of everything that led to the present; and so the question becomes, will he try and fashion a new future?
The Johnny Repeat graphic novel features a wraparound cover by Tim Sale (Batman: The Long Halloween) and Dave Stewart (Catwoman: When in Rome). Paul Azaceta (Grounded), Fabio Cobiaco (Gunned Down), Bruno D'Angelo (Prey), Mark Dos Santos (Western Tales of Terror), Geof Isherwood (Conan), and Noel Tuazon (Elk's Run) each illustrate a separate chapter of the book, which James purposely designed in distinct chapters so that high-caliber artists could contribute without having to make a 100-page commitment. The $12.95 Johnny Repeat graphic novel will debut at the San Diego Comic-Con in July.
