Variety is reporting that New Line Cinema has acquired the film rights to Howard Chaykin's four-issue mini-series, Power and Glory, which was published under Malibu's Bravura imprint in 1994. The Benderspink team of Chris Bender and J.C. Spink, producers of the highly regarded graphic novel-based film, A History of Violence, will produce the Power and Glory film for New Line.
Unlike the somber and gritty A History of Violence, Power and Glory, with its germophobic lead character (a blustering blonde best described as the 'Ted Baxter' of superheroes), is rife with humor and full of comedic potential as long as the studio doesn't dull and dumb down the 'mature' edge of Chaykin's satire.
New Line has assigned Damien Shannon and Mark Swift, the team that penned the Freddy vs. Jason script, to write the Power and Glory screenplay.
