The 'Arts and Leisure' section of Sunday's New York Times included an article by Ben Sisario about NECA's action figure of iconic grunge rocker Kurt Cobain.  Under the title 'Looks Like Cobain, Smells Like $$,' Sisario examines the 'remarkably lifelike' figure in the light of Cobain and Nirvana's anti-establishment, anti-commercial ethos and decides that perhaps this slouching statue of Cobain complete with his blue, left-handed Fender Jaguar isn't necessarily such a bad thing after all.

Due out in June, the seven-inch figure depicts Cobain as he appears in the 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' video and the likeness is superb, good enough to overcome the doubts of Mr. Sisario, who is clearly a fan troubled about the 'commodification' of one of his heroes.  The fact that the author is able to accept this three-dimensional representation of Cobain is almost as important to potential customers (and retailers) as his off-hand mention that the Kurt Cobain figure will undoubtedly end up 'in the action figure section of your local comic book or toy shop.'
