After the property has languished for more than a decade in 'development hell,' Warner Brothers is finally getting serious about bringing a live action version of the Hanna-Barbera animated TV series, The Jetsons, to the big screen.  Variety is reporting that the studio has hired Adam F. Goldberg, one of the screenwriters of Fanboys, which stars Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars), to write a new screenplay for The Jetsons. 

In 1990 an animated feature film version of the exploits of 'the modern space age family' took in over $20 million at the box office (and inspired quite a bit of tie-in merchandise).

First aired in primetime in the early 1960s in the wake of the popular Flintstones series, Hanna-Barbera resurrected The Jetsons in the mid-1980s, which along with numerous Saturday morning airings during the intervening decades means that a huge percentage of the population is familiar with the property -- and that a sizable number probably harbor nostalgic feelings for the series.  Denise Di Novi, who has been attached to this project for several years (see 'Warner Bros. Plans Live Action Jetsons'), will produce the film along with Donald De Line.
