The popular Gundam site, Gunota Headlines is reporting that Sunrise has confirmed the production of a Gundam Seed movie, the first original Gundam anime feature since Gundam F91 in 1991.  No date has yet been announced for the new Gundam Seed feature, which will be directed by Mitsuo Fukuda, who has worked on both the Gundam Seed and the Gundam Seed Destiny TV series.

Material from the original 50-episode Gundam Seed TV anime was recut (with some additional footage) into a couple of previous Gundam Seed 'movies,' but this will be the first wholly original Gundam Seed anime feature.  Although not as popular in the U.S. as it is in Japan, Gundam Seed, the most recent iteration of the long-running Gundam anime series, has done well in both anime (which was shown on the Cartoon Network distributed on DVD in the U.S. by Bandai) and manga (Del Rey has the main series, Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny and Tokyopop has the 'sidestories,' Gundam Seed Astray and Gundam Seed Astray R) formats.
