Gerry Gladston of Midtown Comics in New York City sent us his Free Comic Book Day experience, and pronounces it 'FANTASTIC!'

I apologize for chiming in late here, but here's our FCBD experience at Midtown Comics:

In a word: FANTASTIC.

I worked at our Times Square location on FCBD (last year as well), and the turnout this year was the best yet.  Although most of us don't like long lines, we had one an hour before the store opened, and it was a pleasure to observe a sea of new faces eagerly waiting to get in.  Nobody seemed to mind the line, and they felt it was worth it because we gave out every single FCBD title to every customer, with a separate package of age-appropriate-only books for children.

I hate to sound corny, but there was electricity in the air as entire families came in to pick up free comics.  They also shopped and we had a record Saturday.

Yes, it's an expensive day for Midtown, because the FCBD books are not free to retailers, but was it worth it?  Did we sell a ton of comics to new customers?  Did the publishers put out some great books for the event? Would we be thrilled to do it again next year?

Yes, yes, yes and yes.
