Geneon Entertainment has announced that it has acquired North American merchandising, television, and home entertainment rights to the second season of the popular offbeat comedy series, Kyo Kara Maoh! God (?) Save Our King. Based on a series of best-selling Japanese novels, the 78-episode anime provides an absurdist take on the fantasy genre in which an ordinary high schooler is drawn into an ancient mystical kingdom and asked to perform extraordinary feats. In the first season of Kyo Kara Maoh!, which Geneon will complete on DVD this September, ordinary kid Yuri Shibuya receives the 'swirlie of all swirlies' from a gang of bullies and is flushed into the Great Demon Kingdom, a sort of mystical medieval European setting where Yuri is anointed as the new king (Maoh) because he has black hair and black eyes.
