Some twenty years after its debut Pee-wee's Playhouse, which earned an astounding 22 Emmy Awards, will join the Adult Swim lineup at 11 pm (ET, PT) Monday through Thursday beginning on Monday, July 10th.  Adult Swim will air all 45 episodes of the cult hit series whose cast included Phil Hartman, Laurence Fishburne, and Natasha Lyonne as well as headliner Paul Reubens.  Artist Gary Panter (Jimbo) won three Emmys for his work as production designer for Pee-wee's Playhouse, which also benefited from musical scores provided by Mark Mothersbaugh (Devo), George Clinton, Stanley Clark and Danny Elfman.

While each episode of Pee-wee's Playhouse does feature live action segments, the series also contains all different types of animation including vintage cartoons and stop-motion segments, so it's not such a stretch for the cartoon-based Adult Swim, which recently added the entirely live action Saved By the Bell series (the TV equivalent of the 'so bad it's good' Ed Wood epic, Plan 9 From Outer Space) to its lineup.

During its heyday, Pee-wee's Playhouse inspired a ton of spin-off merchandise, much of which has become high collectible.   With a whole new generation catching its first glimpse of this visually inventive series, another wave of Pee-wee-inspired products could be right around the corner.
