Cartoon Network and Mattel have signed a long term deal making Mattel master toy licensee for its original properties for 6-11 year olds.  Those properties include Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Powerpuff Girls, Camp Lazlo, Ed, Edd n Eddy, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, My Gym Partner's a Monkey, and The Life & Times of Juniper Lee, as well as a first-look option on all newly created original series and programming.

Mattel will have rights to make action figures, playsets, role-play, board games, puzzles, and youth electronics items based on the properties.

Mattel had previously signed licenses for some individual Cartoon Network properties, which will be unaffected by the new deal.

A portfolio deal like this can mean that properties that otherwise wouldn't be worth doing as toy lines can now be done economically, according to toy consultant Chris Byrne, quoted on Marketwatch.com.
