The debut of Oban Star-Racers on the ABC Family and Toon Disney cable channels is further evidence of the globalization of animation.  This anime-like series is a joint French/Japanese production that skillfully combines 2D and 3D animation.  The series follows the adventures of Molly, a talented pilot who wants to compete in the Great Race of Oban, an ultra-competitive event that is held just once every 10,000 years.

Oban Star-Racers, which is seen on ABC Family at 10:30 am (ET, PT) on Fridays and Saturdays, combines fast-paced 3D animation of the actual star-racing with superb highly-detailed, richly-textured anime-like backgrounds for the non-racing 2D sequences.
