The Anime News Network is reporting that Geneon Entertainment announced the acquisition of the 12-episode Black Lagoon anime series at Anime Expo.  Based on the five-volume Black Lagoon manga by Rei Hiroe and produced by Madhouse, the Black Lagoon anime is an adventure series (with comedic overtones) about an ordinary Japanese businessman who is sent to China to deliver a disk, but is soon waylaid by a gang of thugs eager to gain control of the secrets it contains.

The Black Lagoon series, which Geneon helped finance, just started airing in Japan in April, but members of the American fan community who have been able to watch the first few episodes of the series have given it high marks.  Geneon plans to release Black Lagoon here in 2007.
