At Anime Expo FUNimation Productions announced two new acquisitions, Solty Rei and Glass Fleet, both of which were produced by Gonzo (Samurai Seven, Gankutsuou), which is certainly one of the hottest anime studios in today's market and a major source for FUNimation, which recently announced both Black Cat & Witchblade (see 'FUNimation Gets Black Cat' and 'FUNimation Acquires Witchblade Anime').
Solty Rei is a 24-episode science fiction adventure series that debuted in Japan late last year and has already developed something of a following in the American fan community. The hero of Solty Rei is a renegade bounty hunter who teams up with a young girl (who is actually a super-strong android). The anime series was sufficiently popular in Japan to inspire a manga series.
The Glass Fleet is of even more recent vintage -- it debuted in Japan this past April. A space adventure series The Glass Fleet mixes elongated shoujo-like character design with a plot filled with interstellar intrigue.
