Eric Wight, the talented artist who provides the graphics for high school comic penciller Seth Cohen in Fox's teen melodrama The O.C., has signed with Tokyopop to produce a new manga series, My Dead Girlfriend. Wight, who has provided covers (and pencils) for The Escapist from Dark Horse and done lots of work for Hollywood, is going to be taking readers on a trip to Tim Burton land with his saga of love among the ruined, which is set at a fictional Mephisto Prep, a school where being normal is weird and the handsome hero is low man on the totem pole until he meets his 'Corpse Crush,' the aptly named Jenny Wraith..
Wight is a very accomplished artist as can be seen from his design for the cover of a fictional 1941 comic (The Blue Twister), which was featured in a memorable episode of Six Feet Under. It should be very interesting to see what he does with his somewhat twisted saga of teenage love among the Uberzombie & Crypt crowd. Tokyopop plans on releasing the first volume of My Dead Girlfriend on Valentine's Day 2007.
