The Toonzone is reporting that FUNimation's Crayon Shin-chan anime series will get a test run on the Cartoon Network's late night Adult Swim in August. Based on a manga series by Yoshito Usui (a number of volumes of which were published in the U.S. by Comics One), the Crayon Shin-chan anime has been running for 15 years on Japanese TV in spite of the occasional bursts of outrage that the five-year-old protagonist's inappropriate behavior and language (see 'FUNimation Acquires Crayon Shin-chan Anime') have inspired among Japanese parents groups and cultural watchdogs.
With over 600 episodes in the can, this series is based on one of the most popular properties ever. It will be the first major anime comedy series released in the U.S.
FUNimation also announced that two of its series, Basilisk and Gunslinger Girl will run on the Independent Film Channel (available on many satellite and cable systems). FUNimation's popular anime series Samurai Seven has been running on the IFC.
