David Lloyd the co-creator (with Alan Moore) of V for Vendetta is coming to the U.S. later this month to promote Kickback, his first original work to see print in the U.S. since the debut of the film version of V for Vendetta, which came out on DVD this week.  Dark Horse Comics is publishing the Kickback hardcover ($12.95), a gritty, full color 92-page crime thriller about a corrupt cop working in a mythical U.S. metropolis, who makes the difficult and dangerous decision to play it straight.

Kickback was first published in France in 2003 because as Lloyd noted, 'At the time I wrote it that (France) was the market I considered would be ideal for it.'

Now with more and more U.S. publishers releasing crime comics (see 'Brubaker's 'Criminal'') and the release of V for Vendetta on DVD, Lloyd is planning a U.S. tour in support of Kickback starting on August 19th in Orlando, diverting to Anaheim, and then stopping in Atlanta, Baltimore, New York and Toronto.

The V for Vendetta movie is the Sin City of 2006, driving sales of the V for Vendetta graphic novel and making it the #1 non-manga release of the year in bookstores.  The V for Vendetta teaser line on the cover of Kickback should help retailers make the connection to one of the hottest properties of the year.
