Graphic novels were the stronger category in August, with sales up 35% over the year ago period; comic growth was slower, at about 10% over August 2005. Comics and graphic novels over-all were up 14% vs. one year ago.
In graphic novels, it was hardcovers that pushed up sales; event comics were the story in comic periodicals.
But with five 52 issues, there were clearly more than four weeks in the month, so we'll wait for the full Q3 numbers before celebrating a massive increase in sales. It's likely that sales will be up strongly for the quarter, though, with two good months already in the bag.
