Clive Barker announced on his Website that he is writing a remake of his groundbreaking 1987 horror film Hellraiser, the film that introduced Barker's signature 'Pinhead' character and spawned a surprising amount of merchandise.  Barker is writing the remake for the Weinstein brothers (formerly of Miramax), but he will not direct the film, stating, 'I wouldn't wish to direct -- I only want to write and be a part of the producing team.  I wouldn't want to revisit something that I did as a director, something that I did all those years ago.'

With the tsunami of horror film remakes that has swept over Hollywood in recent years (The Omen, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dawn of the Dead, Amityville Horror etc.) it was only a matter of time until Clive Barker's oeuvre was included.  Now as a screenwriter he is enjoying the idea of writing a script for a better financed version of Hellraiser -- the original film had a budget of just $900,000.
