DC Comics has announced that Sue Pohja has joined the DC staff as Vice President of Trade Sales.  Pohja is a veteran of the book trade having worked as a store manager and buyer for Barnes & Noble.  Most recently she headed up sales and marketing for four Langenscheidt imprints including Berlitz Travel, Insight Travel Guides, Hammond World Atlases, and Langenscheidt Reference.  She will take over for Rich Johnson (see 'Rich Johnson No Longer DC VP') and will be responsible for sales of graphic novels to the book trade, mass market, libraries, wholesalers, Internet booksellers and independent bookstores.

DC's press release also included a reference to Pohja's working, 'with DC Direct to promote toys and collectibles to various book and mass market retailers.'  In response to inquiries from ICv2 about that statement, a spokesperson for DC indicated that this was not a new focus for trade sales and did not mean that DC was about to try to place all sorts of DC Direct merchandise in the book and mass market channels.  Instead, the statement was a reference to already existing programs such as the Superman/Batman action figure/trade paperback combos.
