Trans World Entertainment, which acquired the Musicland chain earlier this year (see 'Trans World Bid for Musicland Approved'), reported a loss of $11.4 million in Q3, roughly the same as its $11.5 million loss a year ago.  Sales were up dramatically from the Musicland acquisition though, to around $298 million from $241.4 million in the year ago period.

DVD sales were up 77%, driven by sales through Musicland's Suncoast stores.  Trans World now expects DVDs to be roughly equal to music in its mix for Q4.  Trans World is operating around 180 Suncoast stores.

Trans World is still trying to pick up some Tower locations out of the liquidation; its bid for the entire chain's assets was rejected (see 'Tower Records Liquidated').
