Home Media Retailing is reporting that the CBS Home Entertainment plans on releasing the original Star Trek TV series in both the HD DVD and Blu-Ray high definition formats.  As befits the Star Trek series' pioneering image, it will be the first TV series that CBS will be releasing in the new high definition formats. The HD DVD release of the original Star Trek series is currently scheduled for early in the fourth quarter.  The Blu-Ray release date has not been set yet.

Back in September ICv2 noted that CBS was remastering the original Star Trek series in high definition and making a number of improvements on the original special effects (see 'Star Trek: TOS Makeover').
