IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures have announced that Zack Snyder's film of Frank Miller's 300 will get a simultaneous release on March 9th in both regular and IMAX theaters.  300 will be the first feature motion picture to open in IMAX theaters in 2007 and the immersive IMAX format should enhance the movie-going experience for those who attend screenings of the epic tale of the heroic Spartans.

The IMAX screening should also make a substantial incremental addition to the total box office take of 300.  The simultaneous IMAX release of 300 is just another indication that Warners is thinking of 300 as one of the major releases of Q1 2007.  Warners has mounted a major advertising campaign for the film that included pricy spots during the NFL playoffs.

Early publicity has also been positive (see ''300' Examined in 'New York Times'').

Meanwhile Frank Miller's 300 graphic novel, which was the sixth best-selling non-manga graphic novel of 2006 continues to move briskly in both the bookstore and direct markets.  Dark Horse has two printings of 50,000 copies each scheduled so availability of the book should not be a problem.
