Paramount Pictures has acquired the screen rights to Paul Pope’s upcoming graphic novel, Battling Boy, which will be published by First Second in the spring of 2010, according to Variety.  Brad Pitt’s Plan B production company, which is currently developing a number of other comic book-based projects including Black Hole (see “David Fincher to Direct Black Hole”) and World War Z (see “JMS No Longer Exclusive With Marvel”), is working with Paramount on Battling Boy.

Battling Boy is the action-packed saga of the son of a superhero (or perhaps a god) who is sent by his father to clean up the continent-sized city of Monstropolis, which is literally overrun with every sort of monster.  According to the report, Paramount is currently “looking to attach a writer to adapt Battling Boy.”

Paul Pope is a multiple Eisner Award-winning artist/writer, who is perhaps best known for Heavy Liquid, Batman: Year 100, and the epic Martian saga THB (see “First Second Publishing Total THB”).
