At the San Diego Comic-Con, Del Rey announced the March 2010 publication of a graphic novel adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, a mash-up of Jane Austen and modern zombie fiction orchestrated by Seth Grahame-Smith.  The parody novel, which contains about 85% of Jane Austen's original prose, was published by Quirk Books in April of 2009.  It  reached #3 on the New York Times bestseller list and quickly piqued the interest of a number of Hollywood film studios.

With zombie sagas at their zenith of popularity in the comics world thanks to Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead and Marvel Zombies, a graphic novel adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies appeared inevitable, and Del Rey seized the opportunity with and adaptation written by Tony Lee (Doctor Who) and illustrated by Cliff Richards (Buffy the Vampire Slayer).
