Ridley Scott is set to direct another Bladerunner movie based on his 1982 science fiction classic.  Scott has been tapped to direct the new Bladerunner movie by Alcon Entertainment, which gained control of the Bladerunner property earlier this year.  Scott’s groundbreaking 1982 film was based on Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, and though it was not a moneymaker when it was first released, it is considered one of the most influential science fiction movies of all time.

Deadline is reporting that Scott will tackle the new Bladerunner movie, which could be either a prequel or a sequel, but will be set in the same complex future world, as soon as he finishes his current project, Prometheus, a science fiction film written by Damon Lindelof that was “inspired” by Scott’s original Alien movie.  So far no writer has been assigned to the new Bladerunner project, but Scott appears to be fully in charge as both director and producer.
