Since August 12th, comic book writer and Lobo co-creator Roger Slifer has been off the ventilator and breathing on his own.  Slifer was severely injured in a hit-and-run accident in Santa Monica on June 23rd.  Hero Initiative reports that Slifer opens his eyes and shows some responsiveness to touch. The hope is that in 3-6 months he will be ready for rehab.

Slifer was moved to Barlowe Respiratory Hospital, which is an institution that is known for skill in weaning patients off of ventilators (see "Slifer Still Comatose"), and Slifer began breathing on his own after three weeks at Barlowe.
