The Walt Disney Company has moved up the premiere date of Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man from July 31st, 2015 to July 17th, 2015, the date recently vacated by Warner Bros.’ Batman/Superman, which was pushed back to May 6th, 2016 when it is now slated to go head-to-head with an as-yet-unnamed Marvel movie (see "Ouch! 'Batman/Superman' Movie Bumped to 2016").
Meanwhile back on July 17, 2015 Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man will have its own mano-a-mano donneybrook against Warner Bros. Pan, a live-action origin story prequel to J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan that stars Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard and is being directed by Joe Wright (Atonement).
The mid-July dates are prime movie real estate as Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies proved, and with fan interest in Ant-Man running at record levels, Marvel Studios may think it has a real winner on its hand, especially with director Edgar Wright getting the opportunity to work his genre-blending magic with a great cast that includes Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym (see "Michael Douglas Is Hank Pym").
Will Go Head-to-Head with 'Pan'
