The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF) announced the release of its first-ever Banned Books Week Handbook as a free resource for those participating in Banned Books Week. The guide is available for free download on the CBLDF website, and print bundles are available for order through CBLDF and Diamond Comic Distributors.
CBLDF and the national Banned Books Week planning committee announced last month that 2014’s Banned Books Week will include a thematic focus on comics and graphic novels (see "Banned Books Week Focuses on Comics"). This year’s Banned Books Week takes place September 21-27. The free 16-page guide is a planning tool for librarians, retailers and educators designing their Banned Books Week celebrations, as well as a tool to fight censorship.
CBLDF is also releasing the first installment of a new series of CBLDF Discussion Guides. The guides provide targeted questions and activities centered on challenged graphic novels. The Banned Books Week Handbook made its debut at the American Library Association (ALA )Annual Conference in Las Vegas.
