Disney expects that sales of its Infinity game, which combines collectible figures with video game elements utilizing multiple properties, will hit $1 billion since launch (last August) with its introduction of Marvel characters into the game this summer (see "'Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes'"), Disney Interactive President Jimmy Pitary told Reuters.
That puts Disney in heady company, with Activision’s similar game Skylanders, which has logged over $2 billion in sales since its launch in 2011 (see "'Skylanders' Comic Series and Micro Fun Packs").
And Disney still has another big jump coming when it incorporates Star Wars into Infinity (see "Marvel, 'Star Wars' Planned for 'Infinity'").
The sales of collectible figures tied to video games may be having an impact on action figure sales (see "Action Figures in Decline").
