Technomancer Press has announced plans for an innovative launch for TerraDrive, its new RPG, at Penny Arcade Expo this fall. The run-up kicks off June 1st, with the launch of the TerraDrive Website, which will use a Wiki to allow users to help flesh out the TerraDrive universe. The company plans to provide kits to retailers that will help each store's customers to get involved collectively, generating interest in purchasing the game on release and providing an indication of demand for the retailer.
The core game will release at PAX in late August as a 178-page trade paperback with Technomancer's distinctive packaging -- orange covers with black/white interiors -- allowing a $19.99 MSRP. The setting is the 25th century, with anime-style artwork. Technomancer promises that its rules lite will allow players to 'Be playing in 30 minutes or your money back.'
TerraDrive Live, a live action game, will also be held at PAX. Each attendee will receive a life token, which can be used to play against any other attendee. Play can be a full-scale LARP, or simple combat with a 30 second resolution that determines the winner who gets the loser's life token. Faction play will also be supported. Players will turn in their accumulated life tokens at 'Kill Stations,' with the results of the game posted at the end of the show.
Two adventures, based on the Wiki-created universe, are also planned for release at a $12.99 price point.
