Promising even more violence, Dreadball Xtreme is the "underground" version of Mantic Games’ popular Dreadball science fiction-based sports game.  Like the earlier game, Dreadball Xtreme will feature highly-detailed plastic models and top-quality components.  Also like the original, the new game was funded through a highly successful Kickstarter campaign that has already collected pledges of over $300,000.  It will release to backers and trade in November.

Dreadball Xtreme offers football-style action between armored futuristic teams.  The game is played on a customizable playing field, representing the prison yards and industrial areas that are often home to unregulated Xtreme games put on by sponsors from the criminal underworld.  Since these shadowy games have no referees, they are even more violent than regular Dreadball games, and feature deadly traps and dangerous aliens to add to the carnage.

The Dreadball Xtreme boxed set will include two complete teams of eight minis each, as well as nine "free agents" and two "sponsors."  The game is played on a deluxe rubber-backed game board that can be customized with three-dimensional scenery.  Also included are the cards, tokens, and dice needed to play.  MSRP is $79.99.

Mantic plans to support Dreadball Xtreme with numerous expansions.  The first two expansions planned will be a Dreadball Player Manual that will include rules for using the 12 teams from Dreadball in Dreadball Xtreme, and the Xtreme Xpansion featuring a tile-based game board.

The Kickstarter program for Dreadball Xtreme will run through March 16, and includes a retailer-targeted promotion called "Onslaught."  It includes $500 worth of games and supporting marketing material at Mantic’s trade discount.

Mantic Games has enjoyed tremendous success with its Kickstarter programs, and with the Kickstarter-funded games in trade channels (see "Mantic Games Topping Kickstarter with Trade" for an interview with Mantic’s community manager James Hewitt).
