Greater Than Games has launched a pre-order program for the next Sentinels of the Multiverse expansion, which will be called Wrath of the Cosmos. The preorder campaign is being run much like a Kickstarter on the company’s website, but there’s no retailer level. Shipments to preorder customers are planned for December, with shipments to trade to follow. As of August 27, over 3,000 copies have been pre-ordered on the site, which “unlocks” all of the advertised add-ons, including promo cards and three mini-expansions.
The Wrath of the Cosmos expansion features two new heroes, four villains, and two environments to the cooperative card game based on classic comic books. The players must work together to defend the earth from extra-terrestrial threats.
Sentinels of the Multiverse has been a huge success for Greater Than Games. As Christopher Badell, Greater Than Games’ Design Director and co-owner, explained, "In the last two years, since we released the Enhanced Edition at Gen Con 2012 (see "Four Games You May Have Missed"), we’ve sold over 60,000 copies of Sentinels of the Multiverse. That doesn’t count the sales of any expansions or anything else, that’s just the core game itself."
Greater Than Games is also developing a program to support in-store events for their games. This may include "demo boxes" that include promotional materials for retailers that want to run demos of its games in their stores. An in-store tournament league is also planned to support the new Sentinel Tactics game.
Sentinel Tactics, which is also set in the comic book world of Sentinels of the Multiverse, was funded through a successful Kickstarter campaign. It was originally intended to release in December, but Greater Than Games was able to produce the game ahead of schedule and shipped to Kickstarter backers shortly before Gen Con (see "'Sentinel Tactics: The Flame of Freedom' and Miniatures").
