Sabertooth Games has announced two releases, Penny Arcade and Soul Caliber III, for its Universal Fighting System, and will announce a third UFS CCG property in October.  Like Upper Deck's Versus system, Sabertooth's UFS can support a variety of characters from different genres and games in one-on-one combat.  Sabertooth's UFS rules also add a layer of progressive difficulty -- the more a player does in one turn, the more difficult future actions become.

The Penny Arcade CCG (see 'Sabertooth Does Penny Arcade'), which will be the first of the UFS games released, will probably be a one-off product that will come in Sabertooth's Battle Box format -- basically an easy-to-use 2-deck starter kit that's ready to play right out of the box.  Sabertooth has used the Battle Box format successfully with its WarCry and Horus Heresy releases, where the Battle Boxes have served as 'jumping-on' points for new players.  With Penny Arcade the Battle Box format will provide players with a great introduction to the Universal Fighting System, as well as with cards that they can use with a Starters and Boosters format game such as Soul Caliber III (see 'Sabertooth Adds Soul Caliber III').  Sabertooth plans to issue expansions for Soul Caliber III, which is planned as an on-going franchise.
