The Right Stuf Astro Boy Ultra Collector's Edition DVD set (just released, see 'Astro Boy DVDs Street March 28th') got some great coverage in a Sunday New York Times article titled ''Astro Boy' in Glorious Black and White.' The careful history of the series and description of the set points out the importance of Astro Boy in the history of Japanese animation, the influences on Tezuka's creation of the series, the influence the series has on contemporary anime, and the metaphor of robot-human relationships for racial discrimination.
The b/w packaging signals to consumers that the series is in its original b/w, and is for those that saw it when it came out in the 60s (or in its numerous re-showings), or that want to see Tezuka's first series with a continuing storyline as it was originally created.
