Syrian cartoonist Ali Ferzat was attacked and his hands broken as a response to cartoons he drew that were critical of dictator Bashar al-Assad, according to the Guardian. Ferzat’s most recent cartoon showed al-Assad trying to hitch a ride with a departing Muammar Gaddafi, and his work has been supportive of the anti-government protests in Syria.
Ferzat was abducted as he left his studio in the early morning hours of Thursday, and then dumped, injured, on the side of the road after having been told it was “just a warning,” according to the report.
