Marvel unveiled a plethora of announcements at New York Comic Con, including new series, publishing events, and more. Tops on our list of new series was the news that Marvel will launch an ongoing Halo series by Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev this summer. With the Halo graphic novel one of the best-selling titles of the year in 2006, the comic series should sell both as pamphlets and in the inevitable collected versions.
Another media tie-in was the announcement that Marvel will launch a New Avengers/Transformers crossover title, in cooperation with IDW, which has been publishing the Transformers series, in July to tie into the release of the movie July 4th (see 'Best in Shows 2007, Part 2').
Marvel also announced details of three major 2007 publishing events. 'World War Hulk,' which kicks off in Incredible Hulk and a prologue book in May, gets going in earnest in June with the launch of the World War Hulk core miniseries and three companion miniseries: World War Hulk: X-Men, World War Hulk: Frontline, and World War Hulk: Gamma Corps. In July, World War Hulk: Young Avengers (by Jeph Loeb and David Finch) will launch. The 'World War Hulk' event will also tie in to a number of Marvel's ongoing series, including Invincible Iron Man, Ghost Rider, Heroes for Hire, Avengers: The Initiative, and Irredeemable Ant-Man.
'Annihilation Conquest,' following up on the successful 'Annihilation' event, will launch in June with a prologue book by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, with art by Brian Denham. It will be followed by three four-shot miniseries, four issues of the ongoing Nova title, and eventually with an Annihilation Conquest six-shot miniseries.
The 'Civil War Initiative' family of titles will welcome a new Champions maxi-series, currently scheduled at 12 issues beginning July 2007.
The J. Michael Straczynski written Thor, with art by Olivier Coipel, will also launch in July.
