At the San Diego Comic-Con Dreamworks announced the optioning of Courtney Crumrin and The Damned, two comic book properties published by Oni Press.  Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, who previously received producing credits on Men in Black and Road to Perdition, will produce for Dreamworks.

 

Ted Naifeh's Goth-tinged Courtney Crumrin is the saga of a young girl who moves into a spooky mansion owned by her uncle and discovers that she has magical powers.  Oni has collected Naifeh's Courtney Crumrin comics into 3 graphic novel collections with a fourth graphic novel due on August 15th.

 

Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt's The Damned is a genre-mixing gangster/horror comic in which rival gangs have to team up in order to battle a group of demons invading their town.  Oni's first graphic novel collection of The Damned is due out this week.

 

Other Oni projects in development in Hollywood include Scott Pilgrim and Leading Man at Universal and an independent Oni-produced live action adaptation of Seasons of Dust, which Tim Blake Nelson is planning to direct.
