Sony has acquired the U.S., Canada, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand rights to Production I.G. anime feature The Sky Crawlers (see “’The Sky Crawlers’”), based on a bestselling Japanese novel, according to Variety. The film was just shown at the Venice Film Festival (see “New Miyazaki Film to Venice”), although it didn’t win any awards. 

Sony is no stranger to high profile anime features, with Tekkon Kinkreet, Paprika, and Final Fantasy VII:  Advent Children in its portfolio from recent years.
