Isreali animated film Waltz with Bashir has been named the best picture of 2008 by the National Society of Film Critics. Although there’s little correlation between the critics’ choices for best picture and the Oscars (their picks only matched four times in the last 31 years), the film is starting to get a lot of critical and audience buzz and is getting a lot of comparisons to Persepolis for its memoir style.

The film has been adapted into a graphic novel by Ari Folman (the filmmaker) and David Polonsky, to be released by Metropolitan Books in February.
