Launch kits for Bandai’s upcoming Battle Spirits TCG, a major hit in Japan (see “Bandai Brings ‘Battle Spirits TCG’ to U.S.”), will include free hobby boosters and prize support as part of Bandai’s plans for an ambitious organized play system, which culminates with World Championships in Tokyo in November.
To receive the launch kits, retailers need only sign up with Bandai’s OP program. Stores currently in the system will receive the kits automatically. Bandai already offers one of the most generous prize-support programs in the industry, and the free launch kits are a way for retailers to get in on the ground floor of Battle Spirits with no financial risk.
“Our top store last year received about $6,500 in prize support from us. This year, because of Naruto, Dragon Ball, and Battle Spirits, we project that he’s going to exceed $10,000,” said Bandai’s James Takenaka. “Now, a lot of stores might not reach that level, but a lot of stores should be at the $5,000 to $6,000 level.”
