Comic retailer organization ComicsPro has selected a new director for its board, and named a new vice president to fill the spot vacated by Chris Powell of Lone Star Comics, who resigned.  Calum Johnston of Strange Adventures in Halifax, Nova Scotia will take Powell’s seat on the ComicsPro board of directors, the first Canadian to take that role.  Johnston’s store won a Will Eisner Spirit of Comics award for retailing excellence in 2001.

Gary Dills, co-owner of The Laughing Ogre in Virginia and Ohio, will take over as vice president of the organization.

Powell resigned from both posts due to time pressures (he’s General Manager of Lone Star and was recently elected president of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, see “CBLDF Gets New President”).

“It’s become clear in the weeks since I ran for re-election that the stresses of running seven stores and a mail order business during ‘interesting’ economic times, plus being on the Boards of Directors of two non-profit organizations is just too much for me,” Powell said.  “I will remain an active member of ComicsPro…. I love what this organization has done, and am very optimistic about what it will accomplish in the future.”
