Hurricane Entertainment became the second company (Team Red Star was the first) to sign with CrossGen's new imprint for creator-owned titles, CG Entertainment.  CrossGen will publish Hurricane's recently announced John Carpenter's Snake Plissken Chronicles comic series (see 'Retro With A Twist'), with the first issue to be released next spring. Both Hurricane Entertainment and Team Red Star previously published under the Image banner, but unlike Team Red Star, Hurricane Entertainment has not completely decamped from Image; Image will continue to publish Hurricane's Violent Messiahs.  Could this augur the beginning of a Hollywood-like system in which studios would create comics and shop them to various publishers like a TV show is pitched to the various networks?  It should be interesting to see what happens with Hurricane's next project.

Appearing at the one of several CrossGen panels at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Hurricane CEO Jan Utstein-O'Neill cited CrossGen's worldwide reach (CrossGen comics are published in twelve languages distributed in 35 countries, and the publisher has a very aggressive Internet program) as the determining factor in placing the title with CG Entertainment.  'We are trying to create a worldwide 'Snake Plissken' brand, and we think CrossGen provides the best opportunity to do so,' said Utstein-O'Neill, who appeared with penciller Tone Rodriguez (Violent Messiahs).
