Sony Pictures Animation will make former Marvel exec Avi Arad’s Popeye (see “Avi Arad Has Popeye Rights”) in 3D, according to Variety.  A scriptwriter (Mike Jones) has been hired, according to the report.  Major characters Olive Oyl, Bluto, and Swee’Pea are expected to be involved; no word on our favorite, Poopdeck Pappy.
